Malorie’s Advice:
One piece of advice for new and veteran teachers is the power of behavior management and positive reinforcement. Taking time to build relationships and develop routines within the classroom is essential for a learning classroom community.
Secondly, be sure to practice and pronounce each student’s first and last name correctly. It might be helpful to record how the student pronounces their names.
Lastly, remember, you’re never in this work alone. Collaborate with your grade-level team, professional learning community, families, students, coaches, and administration. Lean on them, learn from them, and let them support you—it truly takes a village to make a difference!
Greta’s Advice:
One of the most important pieces of advice I can give is to lean on others. This work is too complex and too important to do alone.
Building a sense of community is essential; students need to feel like they belong before they can truly thrive academically. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, share ideas, or just connect with colleagues who understand the journey.
When everything feels urgent, choose one area to focus on for the school year. Giving your energy to one intentional goal can lead to deeper impact and more sustainable growth for both you and your students.
